Only last month she celebrated winning the same category in the Generation Next awards.
Both awards are organised by The East Midlands Chamber and our client services Director, Grace Golden was also a finalist in both awards in the Rising Star category.
Ruby was nominated for the way in which she has supported her previous line manager and the technical director in rolling out many new processes. Through introducing these processes, all areas of the business – from production to account management – have benefitted from increased efficiencies, enhanced communication and better teamwork and understanding between departments.
From the outset, Ruby has been determined to succeed and was not deterred when first applying for her role as an apprentice by the fact the job specification required an understanding of HTML and CSS. Areas which, initially, Ruby had very minimal understanding. In the month between applying, and her first interview, Ruby learned these skills and even built a website to evidence her ability.
The other challenge Ruby faced was working in a very male dominated IT environment as a 16-year-old girl. She faced some opposition from male friends who said that she shouldn’t be going into the IT industry as she wouldn’t be taken seriously. While this was a little discouraging, Ruby ignored their concerns and has since received lots of support, praise and encouragement from the team at PM. Throughout her apprenticeship, Ruby has worked to further expand her skills by completing additional self-elected qualifications.
Praising Ruby’s performance and willingness to learn, Tim Lenton, Purpose Media, Technical Director, said, “Ruby has excelled in her role and by being proactive and taking on these additional responsibilities she has helped to ensure PM met all project deadlines. She has shone brightly as a result of being able to fully demonstrate her skills and has a bright future ahead of her. Her biggest achievement is that she has integrated well into the company and made herself a valued key member of the team, so much so that having completed her apprenticeship, she immediately asked to start her Prince2 project management qualifications and has already been promoted into a project management role.”
PM has a long track record of employing and training over 20 apprentices, many of which now hold senior roles. We value that apprenticeship schemes are one of the best sources of talent and lead to success both for the employer and the apprentice. Ruby is a highly motivated and engaged apprentice, has become a highly valued team member and is highly recommended as apprentice of the year.
